Have you been on the fence about doing a cake smash photoshoot? Have you been torn about doing the absolutely hilarious session versus one-year photos? Well, look no further! With Little Owls, you never have to pick. We always begin our sessions with formal one-year pictures, then move into the cake smash and end with an epically bubbly time. These are the moments you shouldn’t have to pick between.
Declan’s Cake Smash
As many of you who have been reading my blog for a while, now know how much I LOVE a good one-year cake smash session; I mean who doesn’t love watching a baby eat cake for the first time?! If you are sad or feeling down, I can guarantee that watching a one-year-old eat cake is sure to bring a smile to your face. Not to mention it is the cutest, funniest thing you’ll see for quite some time.
Baby Declan came in for the first time for his Christmas mini session and I fell in love with his cuteness. I absolutely love meeting new clients for the first time and getting to know them and their families. I have been so fortunate over the years to have clients always returning for me to capture their special life moments. As a newborn photographer, I do a lot of newborn sessions and get to hold people’s adorable precious babies, but the best thing about being a newborn photographer is I am the start of people’s family journey. I get to build life-long relationships with them and watch their children grow, but nothing is more fun for me than a one-year cake smash session.
Declan’s Momma
Baby Declan is so loved, that I loved watching this one-year-old eat cake with his face only(no hands needed), but I also loved watching his mother sing and dance and smile along with him. As busy as the day can be these are the moments I love most. As a parent, you always want what is best for your baby and you strive to capture all the milestones with a professional photographer and use your phone for all the epic moments in between. So as a baby photographer, I love being the person people trust most to capture the memories. It warms my heart that baby Declan’s momma will have these special memories to cherish forever.
Preparing For a One Year Cake Smash
I am always asked the question “What do I bring?” “What do we wear?” Typically I always ask if the baby has allergies because I order the cake. The cake is a vital piece to the setup, it goes with the theme of the shoot but it is very important to use a cake baker that knows what they are doing and can see your vision.
For cakes check out Mad Batter Cakes in Vassalboro, Maine. Nicki is the best! However, you are always welcome to bring your own cake and I am always available to help with guidance. As for what to wear for one-year photos this varies based on the theme you have chosen and again, I am always available for guidance. However, if you are going to be in photos as a family, here is a style guide to look through to base your colors and patterns.
